Ground support rebuilding
Rebuilding arch support in underground workings for a branch of Vostoktsvetmet LLP. The work runs in a live mine: old deformed support is taken down and replaced without stopping production.
Restored section: SVP frames with laggingConditions
Sheet 01Support has to be rebuilt where a working can no longer hold its shape. Three factors act at once and reinforce one another.
Weakened rock
The mass around the working has lost strength: rock crumbles and falls beyond the support line.
Elevated ground pressure
The weight of overlying rock crushes the arch — the profile loses geometry and settles.
High humidity
Water accelerates rock breakdown and corrosion of the steel support.
Delivered
Sheet 02Inclined drive from level 12 to level 11
Fully restored. Along the way, falls up to eight to ten metres high were eliminated — voids above the support had to be filled, otherwise the new arch would have taken the same load that crushed the old one.
